Tesuque
This village, named after the adjacent Pueblo, is just north of Santa Fe. Initially Tesuque drew in artists because of its’ affordability and beautiful setting. Later, the more affluent caught on to its “back to nature” appeal and began to seek out its peaceful environment. The Tesuque Pueblo- Step back in time to one of the smallest and most traditional of all of the Tewa-speaking Pueblos which dates back to 1200 A.D. This “Village of the narrow place of the cottonwood trees” as its Spanish name Tewa describes, is settled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains foothills and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With approximately 800 residents, Tesuque features more than 17,000 beautiful sprawling acres which are home to the Aspen Ranch and the Vigil Land Grant high in the Santa Fe National Forest.
Despite its history of revolts and being under control of the Spanish and later Anglo-American cultures, Tesuque has remained unchanged as it holds strongly to its customs and ancient ceremonial rituals. Tesuque has a vibrant artistic culture that is seen is brightly colored pottery with traditional designs, paintings, sculptures, silverwork and Tesuque clothing. The Tesuque Pueblo is closed on certain days to visitors and photography is not allowed, yet there are ways to take part in the unique culture. The Tesuque Village Market and the Camel Rock Casino located within Tesuque, along with the popular Tesuque dances which take place in the winter are open to the public.

Casa de San Juan

Vista Redondo

Chupadero
Just ten miles NE of Santa Fe and three miles from Tesuque, lies the Village of Chupadero. This small, fairly unknown community is a jewel located in the Chupadero River Valley along County Road 78, which is only a little more than a mile long. This area boasts amazing views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains to the east and the Jemez mountains to the west. Amazing rainbows, sunrises and sunsets as well as a year round running creek. You will find miles of trails nearby to hike or bike in the Santa Fe National Forest. What you will not find in the Chupadero Valley is pollution… no air pollution, light pollution or noise pollution.

Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons in the valley. Take your baskets, jars and appetite to a local apple-pressing event. Pick your own apples, fill your jars with freshly pressed apple juice and feast at the free barbecue!
On Christmas Eve, the roads are lined with luminarias created by the youth in the area. Enjoy their glow as you tromp through the snow to a neighbor’s home for a potluck dinner; and visit other neighbor’s homes on your way to the house where Santa always arrives and has gifts for the children. Continue to visit with friends and neighbors as you gather to watch the huge fireworks display, followed by more munching and sipping if you saved some room. And don’t forget the hayride that follows. Back home and to bed with your own dreams of sugarplums.
Chupadero is a wonderful, inviting community. Residents include local artists, astronomers, attorney’s, EMT’s and fire fighters, Los Alamos scientists and computer specialists as well as Santa Fe business owners- a wide variety of occupations and talents.
Pojoaque & Nambe
Pojoaque and Nambe are neighboring towns just north of Tesuque near Santa Fe in Los Alamos county. Both towns offer traditional New Mexico homes and culture with extensive views of the nearby mountain ranges.
The modern town of Pojoaque is a collection of communities near the Pojoaque pueblo and only fifteen miles north of Santa Fe. Although the town is unincorporated, visitors and residents can still find a visitors center and basic amenities such as a grocery store and family owned restaurants featuring the best local flavors. Near the edge of town in the Pojoaque Pueblo, lies the Buffalo Thunder Resort which happens to be New Mexico's largest and most expensive resort. The Poeh Center and Museum can also be found in the center of town and highlight the rich heritage of Pojoaque. Because of its interchanges and the beginning of the High Road to Taos, Pojoaque is known as the crossroads of the Espanola Valley.
Nearby the traditional farming village of Nambe holds plenty of charm and offers small adobe farmhouses along with newer single family homes and grand estates. Many flock to Nambe due to its strong school system and diverse community. Its Pueblo, after which it is named, is a National Historic landmark and popular tourist destination. The Nambe Falls are among the most breathtaking views in the area and are a “must see” when in the Nambe area. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the peaceful setting of the park and take in the lake hiking trails and the opportunity to camp in this impressive nature scene.
